Date Palm MDF & Related Products

In mid 2005 it had come to our attention that while the UAE & GCC had an abundance of date-palm trees, there were a lot of trees dying and a lot of waste material being collected from said trees. For example in the UAE alone, there are some 44 million trees today and if we we were to even consider that half a percentage of them were to die each year (from drought, disease and other natural causes) in addition to the some 40kgs of palm fronds (leaves) cleared out of each tree every year, we would have approximately 1.8 million tons of raw material being discarded each year (in landfills at the government's expense); this stems from the high mineral content of date-palm trees rendering the raw material virtually unusable for large scale processing.

Therefore from 2005 to 2010, we set out to develop a solution to this problem and after all those years, many sleepless night and as the first project of our Research & Development dept. we successfully managed to develop a process that allowed the separation of the usable fibrous raw material from the minerals, silica & salt content that had previously prevented the use of date palm materials for processing.

The process leaves us with clean bark, root & leaf fibers that can be then used to make products such as MDF, decorative sheets, for infusion in plastic rope (as seen in outdoor furniture) and even paper. Of course due to the lack of technology and other types of wood, the manufacture of these products in the GCC was previously unheard of and accordingly our technology would eliminate the need to import such materials from other nations reducing import costs while using a recycled material and helping reduce deforestation on a global scale.

We currently have samples of the clean product ready as a result of the process that we develop and are looking for potential investors & interested parties to develop a large-scale material processing plant as well as a conventional MDF factory to supply the market with this product; it must be noted that the MDF we have produced is more rigid, waterproof & therefore of a higher quality than the available imported product on the market. Furthermore, it can produced and sold at rates that would easily compete with them as we are using recycled materials and the MDF would be manufactured locally.

Please refer to the below images of samples & examples of the materials/products that we have successfully developed from palm trees:
